Storm Ciarán: Anticipated Disruption & Ticket Validity

The Met Office has issued Yellow and Amber weather warnings for Storm Ciarán, expected to affect various regions from Wednesday 1st November to Friday 3rd November. Heavy rain and strong winds are likely to disrupt rail services, especially in Wales, the South of England, the Midlands, and the North East of England.

The following train operators have issued statements so far:

  • CrossCountry advises customers to check their entire journey on the afternoon of Wednesday 1 November and the morning of Thursday 2 November. For the latest information, click here.
  • Gatwick Express, Southern and Thameslink have shared their statements.
  • Great Western Railway advises customers to expect disruption on some routes and to check their entire journey before travelling on Wednesday 1 or Thursday 2 November.  For the latest information, click here.
  • Southeastern and South Western Railway have also provided advice.
  • Transport for Wales advises passengers to check for any potential disruptions.

Check before you travel

The National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner is currently showing the normal planned service. You are advised to check your entire journey before you travel on Wednesday 1, Thursday 2 and Friday 3 November as trains may be altered in advance or at short notice.

Ticket Validity Arrangements

Tickets dated for Thursday 2 November will be valid to use today, Wednesday 1 November or Friday 3 November instead. If any part of your journey is via London Underground, you will be required to purchase a new ticket for the London Underground leg of your journey.

Refunds

Please note that all standard refund policies continue to apply, with the exception of scenarios where the Train Operating Company has explicitly issued a 'Do Not Travel' advisory affecting your intended journey. If one of your booked trains has been cancelled, you will be able to submit a disruption refund here.
